Doncic exited Thursday's blowout loss to the Thunder in the third quarter and appeared to be in a considerable amount of pain after suffering the hamstring injury. He will end the 2025-26 campaign with averages of 33.5 points, 8.3 assists, 7.7 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 0.5 blocks in 35.8 minutes per contest. The superstar appeared in 64 regular-season games, finishing one short of becoming eligible for All-NBA teams and the MVP award. With Doncic sidelined, Austin Reaves should see increased on-ball duties, while Jake La Ravia, Rui Hachimura and Bronny James are candidates to see increased burn going forward.
Reaves not only will miss the rest of the regular season, but the injury will sidelined for around four to six weeks, meaning he's also expected to miss the first round of the 2026 NBA Playoffs. This is a huge loss for the Lakers, as they also lost Luka Doncic (hamstring), meaning the burden on offense will go through Le Bron James. Reaves averaged 23.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.1 steals per game in 51 regular-season contests, and his ability to return before the start of the playoffs will be key for the Lakers' chances to make a deep playoff run.
Smart has missed the Lakers' last six games. Although he appears to be trending in a positive direction regarding a return to the court, he won't be out there against the Mavericks. With Austin Reaves (oblique) and Luka Doncic (hamstring) out for the foreseeable future, Smart's services will likely be needed out of the backcourt upon his return. However, while he remains out, Jake La Ravia and Luke Kennard should both see even more work moving ahead.
