For his part, Murray -- who underwent surgery Feb. 5, 2025 to address his torn right Achilles tendon -- hasn't provided an update since the Pelicans' media availability day back in September regarding where he stands in his rehab program. The 29-year-old hasn't necessarily hit any snags in his recovery, but Borrego noted that he couldn't "say for sure" that Murray will play any point in 2025-26 until the Pelicans get a chance to evaluate him live on the court during practices or scrimmages. At the very least, Borrego's comment about the Pelicans hoping to have more clarity on Murray's status in the next month would seem to indicate that New Orleans isn't counting on Murray making it back before the All-Star break in mid-February. In the meantime, rookie first-round pick Jeremiah Fears will continue to serve as the Pelicans' starting point guard amid Murray's absence.
Jose Alvarado (oblique) and Herb Jones (ankle) will join Murphy on the inactive list for Wednesday's game, which will open up a ton of opportunity for Jordan Poole and Jeremiah Fears could see a larger role on offense. Murphy's next chance to play will come Friday versus the Wizards, and for now, he should be considered questionable for that one.
Jones has been downgraded from questionable to out because of a sore right ankle. The 27-year-old had missed seven straight games due to a sprained right ankle before returning for Tuesday's game against the Lakers. His next chance to play will come Friday at Washington.
Wednesday will mark the fourth consecutive game on the sidelines for Bey, which will create some more opportunity for Micah Peavy and Karlo Matkovic. Bey's next chance to play will come Friday versus the Wizards.
The 27-year-old veteran is getting the night off on the second leg of a back-to-back set, but considering he's just dealing with some soreness in his oblique, there's a decent chance he'll be able to get back out there for Friday's game against the Wizards. With Alvarado watching from the sidelines Wednesday night, Jordan Hawkins might be able to get into the rotation.
