Our list of the NBA’s 100 most valuable players — ranked by what they produce, not what they’re paid.
By Money on the FloorUpdated Oct 26, 20266 min read
Salary tells you what a team agreed to pay. It doesn’t tell you what a player is actually worth.
So we ran the league through the Money on the Floor model, translating on-court production into salary dollars and comparing that number with what each player actually makes. The result is the Value 100: our ranking of the players producing the most value in basketball right now.
You’ll find the names you’d expect near the top. But this isn’t a ranking of fame, contracts, or reputation. Young stars on rookie deals crash the party. Some max players more than earn their money. Others don’t come close.
For every player, we’re showing three numbers: their production value, their salary, and the difference between the two. That gap is where things get interesting.
Green means a player is giving his team more than it paid for. Red means the contract is winning.
How we rank
Every dot is a player. The farther above the line, the more value he’s producing beyond his salary. The farther below it, the more his contract is outpacing his production.

01
You're getting a scorer, a playmaker and a rebounder in one roster spot. That's a lot of value to find anywhere, let alone in one center.
02
An offense worth building around: prolific scoring, a high share of shots made and the passing to keep teammates involved.
03
The shot-blocking alone demands attention. Getting that alongside major scoring and rebounding makes him a compelling centerpiece.
04
Scoring that can carry an offense, passing that can run one. Getting both from the same player is the argument for building around him.
05
A wing who can carry a scoring load and take the ball back. The outside accuracy makes an already formidable scorer harder to overlook.
06
He piles up points with barely a three in sight. Add rebounding and playmaking to that scoring, and you have the foundation of an offense.
07
He brings a major scoring load, frequent threes and passing. The steals add a way to win the ball at the other end.
08
His established game combines a major scorer's output with a forward's rebounding and playmaking. There is a lot of offense in that combination.
09
A major scoring load with accuracy from the field, beyond the arc and at the line. You can ask a lot of his offense.
10
A big scorer with a major source of points at the foul line. The rebounding adds weight to the case without asking the jumper to explain everything.
11
His established game puts the pass first, backed by frequent, accurate threes. The outside shot gives that playmaking real scoring company.
12
The playmaking is the draw: he supplies teammates with baskets while carrying a major scoring load himself.
13
The outside shot is a major weapon in a much larger scoring game. This is the kind of scorer an offense can lean on.
14
The three-point shot adds offense to a big man's rebounding and shot-blocking. That combination answers several roster needs in the same player.
15
The three is accurate enough to headline the case. His scoring and passing make it a much bigger offensive proposition.
16
An offense built on the three, with the volume and accuracy to make that a star's argument. His outside shot is the main event.
17
You get a center's rebounding without giving up an outside shot. His work on the offensive glass adds chances as well as his own scoring.
18
The scoring gives an offense someone to lean on; the passing gives teammates a share of it. That is a strong place to start a backcourt.
19
His larger sample shows accurate shooting and passing in limited minutes. There is a compact offensive contribution here.
20
A scorer and rebounder whose passing gives teammates a reason to involve him, even when he is not taking the shot.
21
He makes a high share of his shots and adds offensive rebounds. A center's scoring job need not depend on threes.
22
A scorer with a meaningful source of points at the line and the passing to involve teammates. His own attempts are only part of the offense.
23
A playmaker with a heavy appetite for threes. The passing and outside scoring offer very different routes to a basket.
24
Shot-blocking is an unusual extra to get from a guard who also passes and takes threes often.
25
A major scorer whose points include a large contribution from the foul line. The passing gives him responsibility for more than his own total.
26
A forward you want for the points and the glass. The outside shot is a large part of his scoring, rather than a token addition to it.
27
28
A major scorer and passer who also takes the ball back. The steals give a demanding offensive job a contribution at the other end.
29
The foul line does a lot of his scoring work. Offensive rebounds add chances without asking him to become an outside shooter.
30
Accurate threes at one end, steals at the other. His case starts with contributions that ask very different things of a wing.
31
Most of his points come from inside the arc and at the line. That scoring mix gives a forward a case without leaning on the three.
32
His established game pairs a heavy diet of threes with passing and steals. There are ways to contribute even when his own shot is not falling.
33
The passing is the strongest part of his case. His own scoring gives a backcourt more than a distributor to work with.
34
The passing gives an offense its starting point. Threes and free throws supply much of his own scoring, so the job does not end with setting others up.
35
Rebounds, assists, steals and blocks all matter in his case. He gives you ways to help on possessions that never end with his own shot.
36
The foul line is a major source of his scoring, and the passing is a big part of his game as a forward. There is offense to put in teammates' hands, too.
37
Steals and offensive boards help win the ball; passing helps share it. His modest points total leaves much of the argument untold.
38
The glass is the main attraction, especially the extra chances on offense. Shot-blocking gives that rebounding a contribution at the other end.
39
Frequent, accurate threes anchor a serious scoring contribution. The outside shot is doing real work here.
40
The offensive boards are a striking part of a guard-forward's game. Add the passing and you get offense that scarcely depends on threes.
41
A scorer and offensive rebounder who barely needs the outside shot. He makes a high share of his attempts and gives misses another chance.
42
An offensive rebound can keep the ball alive; a pass can put it in a teammate's hands. Those are central parts of what you get from this center.
43
Scoring and passing with little dependence on threes. He gives an offense points of his own and a hand in the points teammates get.
44
His larger body of work makes the pass the main event. A scorer in his own right, he gives an offense a major source of teammates' baskets.
45
46
The scoring is the reason to start here. Rebounding and passing give a forward more to offer than a big points total.
47
An outside scorer who can also do serious work on the glass. The rebounding gives you something to count beyond his own points.
48
His established strengths are offensive rebounding and shot-blocking. Extra chances at one end, a way to challenge shots at the other.
49
Rebounding and blocks are the foundation. Getting passing from the same big man adds a useful offensive dimension.
50
Offensive boards keep possessions alive, and blocks give him work at the other end. His own scoring is a smaller part of the center's case.
51
The sample is limited, but the combination demands a look: scoring, offensive rebounds and shot-blocking from the same big man.
52
Scoring inside the arc and at the line, with rebounding alongside it. The three is a smaller part of what you are getting from this wing.
53
An accurate outside shot alongside scoring and rebounding. A forward can earn his place through that combination without leading the offense.
54
Steals and offensive rebounds are the attraction. He can win the ball without needing to be the scorer or the outside shooter.
55
The offensive glass earns the headline. Blocks and some outside shooting give you more than a rebounder to work with.
56
The passing leads the case, backed by an accurate outside shot. That is an offensive job with room for teammates as well as his own points.
57
A forward with a major scoring contribution and work on the glass. Most of those points arrive inside the arc or at the foul line.
58
59
A big man who can pass and work the offensive glass. You get help creating a basket and help keeping a possession alive alongside his own scoring.
60
Frequent threes supply much of the scoring, while the passing adds work beyond the jumper. A defined offensive contribution for a backcourt.
61
Threes do much of his scoring, and he contributes on the glass. A shooting-and-rebounding argument for a forward's place.
62
A forward whose passing deserves to lead the description. Pair it with his scoring and rebounding, and you have several offensive jobs in one player.
63
An accurate outside shot with a large passing contribution beside it. The backcourt gets more than a player to take the jumper.
64
The playmaking leads, with rebounding alongside it. You are getting a guard whose job can extend well beyond his own scoring.
65
Accurate threes account for much of his scoring. The steals add a reason to want this wing when he is not the one taking the shot.
66
Outside shooting is the clearest argument: frequent threes, enough accuracy to matter and a large share of his scoring coming from them.
67
Frequent threes with striking accuracy make the opening argument. Rebounding and passing give that shooting some company.
68
Frequent threes and a sizeable passing contribution. A backcourt gets an outside shot without making that his whole offensive job.
69
An accurate three supplies much of his scoring. The passing gives you a guard who can contribute to the basket as well as take the shot.
70
71
Threes do much of his scoring, with rebounding alongside them. A clear shooting-and-glass contribution from a forward.
72
Scoring and passing without a leading scorer's share of the minutes. The case is an offensive contribution that fits into a smaller portion of the game.
73
The outside shot is accurate, but most of his points come from elsewhere. You are buying a scorer's wider contribution, not just a three.
74
75
The steals earn attention; the passing earns some of the offensive work. He can contribute before anyone asks him to score.
76
Rebounding, including extra chances on the offensive glass, is the core of the case. There is a little outside scoring alongside it.
77
The offensive glass is where he earns attention. He can add another chance to possessions without needing many shots of his own.
78
The three supplies a large share of a scorer's output. This is outside offense with enough volume to carry real weight in the case.
79
Taking the ball back is the clearest argument. The steals give him a contribution that a modest scoring total does not capture.
80
Almost no threes, plenty of points and a high share of shots made. He offers a scoring case that does not need the outside shot to explain it.
81
A big man whose scoring includes an outside shot and whose defense includes blocks. That pairing is worth a look even without a large rebounding total.
82
Threes account for much of his scoring. Passing and rebounding give a guard contributions when the jumper is not the whole story.
83
Shot-blocking from a wing is the hook, with some outside shooting beside it. His modest scoring total is only part of the contribution.
84
Offensive rebounds are the draw, in limited minutes and with few shots of his own. He can keep a possession going for the scorers around him.
85
86
87
88
89
A big man with frequent, accurate threes and some passing. The outside shot is a real part of his offense rather than an occasional extra.
90
His steals give a team possessions back without asking him to carry its scoring.
91
The outside accuracy is the attraction. The three makes up a large share of his scoring without a heavy total of shot attempts.
92
93
94
An accurate outside shot sits inside a broader scoring game. The passing adds another offensive contribution from a guard you want for points.
95
96
A high share of shots made, very little outside shooting and work on the offensive glass. A focused center's contribution.
97
A forward with a serious scoring contribution built in part on frequent threes. The rebounding means the glass is part of his job, too.
98
Frequent, accurate threes are the job description. A concentrated source of outside points for an offense that needs shooting.
99
100
Shot-blocking comes with scoring and an outside shot. That is a particular combination to get from a big man.
