Edwards went to the locker room during the second quarter of Saturday's Game 4 against the Nuggets with an apparent left knee injury and was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the game, which Minnesota surprisingly won on the back of a career-high performance from Ayo Dosunmu. Donte Di Vincenzo tore his Achilles during Saturday's win as well, so Mike Conley and Bones Hyland will be thrust into expanded roles for the remainder of the first-round series. If the Timberwolves win one of their next three games without their budding superstar, it's possible Edwards could return to action during the Western Conference Semifinals.
Di Vincenzo will have his surgery done by Dr. Martin O'Malley, the same surgeon who repaired the torn right Achilles of Jayson Tatum in May of 2025. The fact that the procedure is taking place within 24 hours of Di Vincenzo's injury should help with the recovery, though it would be unfair to expect the veteran guard to return as quickly as Tatum did, which took approximately 10 months for the latter. It seems more likely that Di Vincenzo will miss the entire 2026-27 season, though if he does progress enough to return, it wouldn't be until late in the regular season. The Timberwolves will also be without Anthony Edwards (knee) for multiple weeks, so the team will turn to Ayo Dosunmu, Mike Conley and Bones Hyland to carry more of the load for the rest of the postseason.
This is a devastating loss for the Timberwolves, who will also be without Anthony Edwards (knee), Donte Di Vincenzo (Achilles) and Kyle Anderson (illness) Thursday. There should be plenty of minutes available in the backcourt for Terrence Shannon and Bones Hyland in Dosunmu's absence.
Anderson was added to the injury report a few hours before tipoff due to an illness, and the team has since reported that he won't be able to suit up. Terrence Shannon and Naz Reid could pick up a few extra minutes in Anderson's absence.
