Jokic will miss his first game in over two months, giving him one more opportunity to play during the regular season before Denver heads into the playoffs. With Jokic ruled out, Jonas Valanciunas might be making his first start since the 128-125 win over Utah on March 2.
According to David Adelman, the Nuggets have opted to hold out their regular starters for Friday's penultimate regular-season contest. Murray was initially listed as questionable due to a shoulder issue, but he will officially take a seat alongside the rest of the starting five as Denver prioritizes rest ahead of the playoffs. With Murray and the starters sidelined, Bruce Brown, Tyus Jones, and Jalen Pickett are all expected to take on massive workloads against Oklahoma City.
Along with the rest of Denver's usual starters, Gordon will be held out of Friday's contest. His next opportunity to play will come during Sunday's regular-season finale in San Antonio. With the veteran forward sidelined, Zeke Nnaji and Julian Strawther should see increased playing time, while David Roddy could enter the rotation.
Johnson will join fellow starters Christian Braun (ankle), Jamal Murray (shoulder), Jamal Murray (shoulder) and Nikola Jokic (wrist) on the bench for Friday's contest. With Peyton Watson (hamstring) and Spencer Jones (hamstring) also ruled out, the Nuggets will turn to Tim Hardaway, Julian Strawther, Bruce Brown, Jalen Pickett and Tyus Jones to alleviate the load.
Braun and the rest of Denver's starters won't suit up against Oklahoma City, so they will have one more chance to play during the regular season before the playoffs commence. Without Braun on the floor, Tim Hardaway will likely enter the starting lineup for the first time since the 147-123 loss to Miami on Dec. 29.
This is a tough blow for Denver after Watson suffered the setback during Wednesday's win over the Jazz. With the playoffs quickly approaching, the Nuggets are likely to tread carefully. In the meantime, Cameron Johnson and Julian Strawther are likely to be more involved for Denver.
Jones has been downgraded to out for a fifth straight matchup with a right hamstring strain. His next opportunity to suit up will arrive Sunday in the regular-season finale against San Antonio.
