The Mavericks are 19-35 and pivoting towards a rebuild, so this news is not a big surprise. By waiting until the 2026-27 season to return from his torn ACL, Irving will be able to take his time with his rehab to ensure that he returns at full strength. Irving is under contract for one more season with a $42.42 million player option for 2027-28.
Washington will miss Monday's game due to to illness. Naji Marshall (illness) is also out, so look for Klay Thompson and Khris Middleton to see an increase in opportunities in the frontcourt.
Marshall was initially listed as probable before being downgraded to questionable Monday, and he's since been ruled out for the front end of this back-to-back set. His next opportunity to play will come Tuesday in Milwaukee. With Marshall sidelined, Klay Thompson, Khris Middleton and John Poulakidas are candidates to see an uptick in playing time.
Martin was added to the injury report as doubtful, and the team has since officially downgraded him to out for Monday's clash, which will mark his seventh consecutive absence. His next opportunity to take the court will arrive Tuesday in Milwaukee.
Lively sought out multiple opinions on his right foot, but it was ultimately determined that season-ending surgery was the best course of action for the third-year center, and he's expected to make a full recovery ahead of the 2026-27 season. Daniel Gafford and Dwight Powell will continue to serve as the main big men for Dallas behind Anthony Davis in Lively's absence.
Bagley had 26 points, nine rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block in Friday's 100-93 win over the Portland Trail Blazers. However, he won't suit up Monday versus Minnesota due to left-shoulder impingement. Dwight Powell is expected to remain in the starting lineup, with Daniel Gafford (shoulder), who is available, in line to see minutes behind him from off the bench.
