Per Aaronson, Nurse said he doesn't "want to anticipate anything" regarding Embiid's return timeline, but the coach didn't rule out the superstar big man suiting up during Philadelphia's upcoming three-game road trip, which starts Tuesday in Denver and ends Saturday in Utah. Embiid has already missed seven consecutive contests, and given Nurse's comments, it sounds like he'll miss at least the next two home games. With Andre Drummond and Adem Bona day-to-day with back issues, Dominick Barlow and Trendon Watford are candidates for increased roles moving forward.
The suspension will start with Saturday's game against the Pelicans and will keep George off the floor until late March. In his absence, Dominick Barlow figures to be the top candidate to enter the 76ers' starting lineup, and Kelly Oubre should also take on an expanded role for Philadelphia.
This is a tough blow for the 76ers, who will also be without Paul George (suspension) until late March. Maxey sustained the finger injury with just 16 seconds remaining in Saturday's loss to Atlanta after colliding with Adem Bona. With Maxey sidelined for at least the next three weeks, VJ Edgecombe should see increased ball-handling duties, while Cameron Payne and Tyrese Martin are candidates for increased minutes.
Oubre missed nearly two months with a knee sprain earlier this season, and he's now set for his second extended absence of the year. Given the timeline for his return, the swingman could realistically be sidelined until April. With the 76ers riddled with injuries, Trendon Watford, Tyrese Martin and Justin Edwards could all compete for Oubre's vacated starting position.
Drummond will be sidelined for a second consecutive game due to a back injury, and he'll look to be available for the second leg of the Sixers' back-to-back set against the Trail Blazers on Sunday. Dominick Barlow should continue to start at center for as long as both Drummond and Joel Embiid (oblique) are sidelined, especially if Adem Bona (back) is unable to play against Brooklyn.
Out
J. Broome
The procedure was performed by Dr. Riley Williams at HSS in New York, and the 76ers announced that Broome will be re-evaluated in four weeks. While the team previously noted that surgery could potentially end the rookie's season, a meniscectomy typically carries a shorter recovery timeline of 4-to-6 weeks compared to a full repair. Broome sustained the injury on Feb. 21 while playing for the G League's Delaware Blue Coats. The second-round pick out of Auburn has appeared in just 11 games for Philadelphia this season, averaging 0.9 points and 1.5 rebounds in 5.0 minutes per contest.
Walker was not listed on the 76ers' injury report Friday, indicating that the illness is new and will put him in jeopardy of missing the second leg of the Sixers' back-to-back set against the Trail Blazers on Sunday. With Walker sidelined, the 76ers will rely more heavily on the likes of Trendon Watford, Dalen Terry and Mar Jon Beauchamp.
