Mavericks at Hornets: Money on the Floor, March 3, 2026
The Mavericks are 19-35 and pivoting towards a rebuild, so this news is not a big surprise. By waiting until the 2026-27 season to return from his torn ACL, Irving will be able to take his time with his rehab to ensure that he returns at full strength. Irving is under contract for one more season with a $42.42 million player option for 2027-28.
Thompson will be held out of Tuesday's contest after picking up the adductor injury in Sunday's loss to the Thunder. His next opportunity to play will come Thursday against Orlando. In the meantime, Caleb Martin, Khris Middleton and AJ Johnson are candidates to see an uptick in minutes.
Flagg is still recovering from a left mid-foot sprain and will miss an eighth consecutive contest Tuesday. According to NBA reporter Marc Stein, there's some optimism the rookie forward is nearing a return to action, and his next chance to play will come Thursday in Orlando. With Flagg sidelined, Caleb Martin and Brandon Williams are candidates for increased playing time.
Marshall will be sidelined for a second straight contest with his next chance to play coming Thursday against Orlando. Khris Middleton could remain heavily involved for Dallas in the meantime.
Lively sought out multiple opinions on his right foot, but it was ultimately determined that season-ending surgery was the best course of action for the third-year center, and he's expected to make a full recovery ahead of the 2026-27 season. Daniel Gafford and Dwight Powell will continue to serve as the main big men for Dallas behind Anthony Davis in Lively's absence.
Bagley will be sidelined for a second straight contest, and it remains to be seen if he will be able to play Thursday against Orlando. In the meantime, Dwight Powell is likely to soak up the backup center minutes.
