Mitchell is set to miss a second consecutive contest Friday due to the groin injury, though he should be considered day-to-day ahead of Sunday's game against the Nets. Until the star guard is cleared to return, Sam Merrill, Jaylon Tyson and Craig Porter are candidates for increased minutes.
Harden was initially tagged as questionable while nursing a fractured right thumb, but the superstar guard will be sidelined for Friday's contest and will look to be available for Sunday's game against the Nets. With Harden and Donovan Mitchell (groin) both ruled out, the Cavaliers will turn to Dennis Schroder, Sam Merrill and Craig Porter to all step into larger roles in the backcourt.
Updates on Strus' status have been few and far between since he underwent surgery in late August to address a Jones fracture of his left foot, but Atkinson's comments offer some encouragement that the 29-year-old's 2025-26 debut could be on the horizon. Atkinson said last week that he fully anticipates Strus playing in games before the end of the regular season, but a more definitive target date for his return likely won't become clear until he takes part in full-contact scrimmaging with teammates. Strus will likely have his playing time monitored carefully once he's ready to play, but the career 36.8 percent three-point shooter will give the Cavaliers some extra floor spacing whenever he takes the court.
Wade is nursing a sprained right ankle, which is severe enough for him to miss Friday's game. His absence means more minutes should be available for Jaylon Tyson and Nae'Qwan Tomlin. Wade's next chance to play is Sunday against the Nets.
Ellis was initially listed as questionable for Friday's contest, though he'll be held out due to a left index finger fracture. His next opportunity to play will come Sunday against the Nets. With the 26-year-old guard joining Donovan Mitchell (groin) and James Harden (thumb) on the sidelines, Sam Merrill, Dennis Schroder and Craig Porter are likely to see increased playing time, while Tyrese Proctor could enter the rotation.
