Rockets at Pistons: Money on the Floor, January 23, 2026
Van Vleet struggled with efficiency during his second season in Houston, but the Rockets' win-loss record with him on the court (41-19) spoke volumes about his overall impact on the team. With Van Vleet sidelined, the runway is clear for Reed Sheppard, who barely had a role as a rookie. Amen Thompson could also handle a ton of ball-handling responsibilities, while Aaron Holiday is the only other true point guard on the roster currently.
Adams sustained the ankle injury in Sunday's win over the Pelicans, and Udoka added that the Rockets are still gathering more information. With the veteran big man expected to miss an extended period, Clint Capela will likely see an uptick in playing time behind Alperen Sengun. In 32 regular-season appearances (11 starts) thus far, Adams has averaged 5.8 points and 8.6 rebounds across 22.8 minutes per tilt.
The veteran forward is sitting out the second half of Houston's back-to-back set. With Tari Eason (ankle) joining Finney-Smith as a spectator Friday, Josh Okogie could see a bump in minutes in the frontcourt.
After logging 28 minutes in Thursday's overtime loss to the 76ers, Eason will be held out for left ankle injury management. Presumably, he will be back in action Monday against Memphis. Josh Okogie and Clint Capela are candidates to be more involved as a result Friday.
Out
A. Holiday
Holiday is out for consecutive contests due to the issue. His next chance to play comes Monday against the Grizzlies. Holiday's absence gives JD Davison the opportunity to claim a meaningful role off the bench Friday, as Tari Eason (ankle) is out.
